If you're a parent you'll know how expensive it can be keeping the brats entertained, especially if you want to take them away during the school holidays. Thankfully help is at hand with many retailers providing special family discounts on holidays, travel and UK days out.
So I've been researching the UK's biggest names to see what's on offer and have put together ten of the best discounts I could find.
1. Jet2olidays – Free Child Places
Jet2Holidays has a lot of free child places and have even developed a handy search engine specifically for finding availability for these types of holidays. As you would imagine they get snapped up quickly, so if you know your travel dates I suggest you start looking soon.
2. Virgin Trains: Children Under 5 Travel Free
A Virgin Family Railcard costs £ 28 per year and entitles adults to a 33% discount and children a massive 60% discount. They also provide free activity bags for 3-6 year olds and children under 5 travel for free.
3. easyJet Holidays: Kids stay free
easyJet has a large selection of kids stay free holidays – these discounts only apply to the accommodation element of your holiday but are still worth considering.
4. Norwegian Cruise Lines: Kids under 17 Sail Free
If you fancy something a bit different from the usual fortnight in Spain then check out Norwegian Cruises. There is a selection of cruises available with under 17's sailing for free – places do seem to be very limited so it's best to book well in advance.
5. Mövenpick hotels
Parents wanting a second room for the children can get a massive 50% discount on any adjoining room. This special offer is available across all 21 European Mövenpick hotels.
6. Alton Towers
a) Kids Day Out
Save 25 percent when you book family tickets online, the cost works out £ 29.70 each. There doesn't appear to be any expiring date so we can assume this is an ongoing offer.
b) Parent and Toddler special
Until early November one parent and toddler can visit the theme park for £ 23.10. Again, there is limited availability so you would do well to book well in advance.
7. London Dungeons
Mums Go Free: A bit of a twist on the classic family discount, London Dungeon's have decided to offer Mums a late night discount while dad stays at home with the kids. They advise you to book early as the £ 20 special runs out quickly.
8. Tesco Clubcard
Did you know members of Tesco's loyalty scheme can enjoy savings of up to 75% on many kids' attractions throughout the UK? Simply exchange your rewards for money off vouchers.
9. On the beach
Not only does On the Beach have some excellent everyday low prices, they also have over 50,000 'Kids Go Free' holidays available each year!
10. National Express
a) Family 1plus1 Coachcard – These cards cost just £ 8 for the year and enable your child to travel for free with any full price paying adult they accompany.
b) Family 2plus2 Coachcard: These cards cost just £ 16 for the year and enable two children to travel for free with two full price paying adults.
Always check to see if there's a family discount before making any purchases. Even if it's not a huge saving, they add up over time.
