Kids and Hotels

December 5, 2019

| hotel, travel

Some hotels are family friendly. That is, they have a pool, maybe an arcade, a playground, things for kids to enjoy. Others may not be as kid friendly, but all hotels have other guests who expect your kids to behave themselves during their stay.

If you have a child who is involved in travel sports like hockey, basketball or soccer, you know you spend a lot of time in hotels. There are games, there are tournaments and likely the whole team (if not multiple teams) are all housed at the same hotel. That makes for a lot of kids. It’s great because you get to hang out with the other parents, the kids get to hang out with their friends and teammates, but there should be limits placed on what the kids can do in and around the hotel.

For instance, no other guest appreciates a gang of kids running down hallways hollering at the top of their lungs. If you don’t let your kids run around like that at home, why are they doing it at a hotel? Another thing that ticks off other guests is that the quiet times aren’t upheld. Just because you’re away from home doesn’t mean you can act out at all times of the day or night.

Being in a hotel is a freedom, parents can go to the restaurant or bar while the kids go in the pool, but this too is tricky as kids should always be supervised around water, no matter their age. Even if parents take turns on pool duty, it’s better than no supervision at all. Ideally, the kids should behave properly in the pool area which means no running, no diving into shallow water and observing the pool rules. Same goes for the gym or fitness center if the hotel has one. This is for all guests to use, and if your child has a legitimate reason to be there, supervised then that’s great, but having a bunch of kids hanging out in the gym annoying other guests is a no no.

For the most part, kids and hotels are a great mix, and families are observant of the rules, the kids are polite and quiet and all is well, it’s when they area allowed to run amok that the problems arise. No one wants to be the one getting kicked out of a hotel so abide by the rules for fun for all.…

Vacation Packages, What Should You Look For In A Vacation Package?

December 5, 2019
| travel, vacation

Vacation packages come in many different shapes and styles. Whether you are looking for a world cruise, cheap vacation packages or romantic honeymoon vacations , there is an itinerary that is perfect for your wants and needs. Decide first where you will travel since this will be the hardest and the most important decision of all.

If you are thinking about booking a cruise vacation package , whether it is for a short trip or long, think about what time of year has the best climate. If you live in a cold weather climate during the winter then a trip to the Caribbean toward the end of January might be a dream come true. Mediterranean cruises are popular during the spring and summer months and, here again, you can enjoy the sun and no crowds if you travel before June.

The most important thing to look for when browsing the many vacation packages will be the itineraries and what they offer the traveler. If you want to spend time at a beach somewhere drinking margaritas then a trip focused around culture and history will not be for you. On the other hand, many people nowdays are really beginning to enjoy experiential travel where they can become at one with their chosen destination.

Taking advantage of vacation packages during a shoulder season is a great way to save money on both airfare and accommodations. Since most people tend to travel in the summer or around the holidays, pick some dates that are right before or right after these busy times. You will not be sorry since this will give you a good chance to visit sites when they are least crowded and eat and drink for the off season rates after the busy tourist season.

Looking for Romantic Vacation Packages?

If you are looking for romantic vacation packages then think about destinations where you can enjoy long sunsets or warm cozy fires. For the winter, there is nothing better than curling up in front of a blazing fireplace with a glass of wine and some good music. Activities during the day can include skiing and snowboarding and in the evening, theater or candlelit dinners can be the norm.

For sunny destinations couples should head to Hawaii or the Caribbean. The Caribbean is so popular for putting together honeymoon packages that just about any island offers some sort of honeymoon special. If you decide to get married on the island, be sure and find out the rules and regulations for obtaining your marriage license.

Vacation packages should speak to everyone on the trip,
they should be about everyone on the trip having a good time. A snorkeling trip will not be fun if you are the only person in your family who snorkels. A relaxing sun-filled vacation will not be enjoyable for the type-A personality who needs to be moving around.

Tips for a Successful Vacation Package:

1) Brainstorm with your loved ones or loved one and come up with the top …

How And When To Use Por, Para and Porque in Spanish

December 4, 2019
| travel

Some beginner students (and advanced) usually have some problems with when they should use POR, PARA or PORQUE and it can be one of the most frustrating topics to learn in all of Spanish. In this lesson we are going to review some rules to recognize when we should use one or another.

We use POR when we want to speak about the reason behind something. In this case you have to use a noun after POR.

POR + Noun: “Me gusta Buenos Aires por el clima.” (I like Buenos Aires because of the weather.)

“Como pollo por las proteínas que tiene.” (I eat chicken because it has protein.)

In Spanish you should use PARA when you are speaking about the objective of an action or the objective of an object. In this case you will use the verb in the infinitive form. PARA + Infinitive Verb: “Ahorro dinero para viajar a otro pais”. (I save money to travel to another country.)/ “El lapiz sirve para escribir.” (The pencil is used to write.).

Finally, we use Porque when you are speaking about the reason of something, but instead of using just the infinitive of the verb, we use the conjugation of the verb.

PORQUE + Conjugated Verb: “Voy a comprarme ropa nueva porque quiero estar elegante esta noche”.

(I am going to buy new clothes because I want to be elegant tonight.)

So, when someone asks you: “Por que estudias espanol?”

(Why do you study Spanish?), you can answer in different ways:

Por mi trabajo. (Because of my job.)

Por el crecimiento del mercado latino. (Because of the growth of the Latin market.)

Para poder comunicarme con personas que hablan espanol. (To be able to communicate with people who speak Spanish.)

Para viajar por Sudamerica. (For travelling around South America.)

Porque me gusta. (Because I like it.)

Porque quiero conseguir un trabajo mejor. (Because I want to find a better job.)

This little lesson doesn’t cover all aspects of when to use POR, PARA and PORQUE, but it should give you a good start at understanding some important differences of when they are used. Be on the lookout for more lessons about POR, PARA Y PORQUE in the future.

I will end this lesson by mentioning a couple of learning Spanish tools that you can use to increase your knowledge about this topic. The Practice Makes Perfect books are among the best for learning Spanish. There are currently about a dozen books in the Practice Makes Perfect series, covering various topic from vocabulary to grammar. Another one that I have recommended to my students is the Learning Spanish Like Crazy audio course which teaches informal or familiar Spanish, but not slang.…

Traveling in Shanghai: What to Do and Where to Go on Your Shanghai Vacation

December 2, 2019
| hotel, travel

Overview

Shanghai is not the best Chinese city to travel to if you're looking to move from tourist attraction to tourist attraction. Having only recently made their move toward modernity, Shanghai has not yet yet that tourist-oriented atmosphere. The beauty of visiting Shanghai, instead, is in its antiquity and originality. Shanghai is a blend of Eastern and Western cultures, its architecture being the dominant showcase of its diversity. While some Shanghai buildings are a monument to art deco, others retain a distinct imperialist flair. To experience Shanghai's imperial roots, a trip to Yu Yuan Gardens is absolutely necessary. For a taste of Shanghai's nightlife, the Bund is the place to go. In fact, the Bund and its surrounding areas are the most modern and busy sections of Shanghai, with a wealth of shopping, eating, and drinking options.

Nightlife

Shanghai's vibrant nightlife, in recent years, has begun to rival that of Hong Kong Island. Nanjing Lu is the busiest shopping street in Shanghai. Start your day at the beginning of the street with a trip to the Peace Hotel, known for its act deco interior. When you've finished traversing the department stores and markets, end the day at the end of Nanjing Lu with a trip to the Shanghai Museum, often called the best museum in China for its displays of Chinese art and artifacts. For antique-loving travelers, a trip to Dongtai Lu Antique Market is a must. This is the largest antique market in China, and the premiere place for finding treasures like old Buddha statues and Mah Jong sets. For eating and drinking adventures, visit Huaihai Lu for a varied blend of worldly cuisines and a drink at one of Shanghai's lively bars and nightclubs.

Sightseeing Attractions

While Shanghai is best reserved for exploring-oriented tourists and those who know how to find ways to entertain themselves, there are still attractions to appease those tourists who want to be shown a good time. Visitors can ride to the top of the Shanghai Pearl Tower, the tallest tower in Asia, for an amazing view of the city, enjoy a cup (or many cups) of tea in the Huxinting Tea House while listening to a Chinese orchestra or gazing upon the surrounding lake, or tour the Huangpu River on a ferry. For a more-traditional Chinese experience, take a trip to either Lknghua Temple or Jade Buddha Temple. Lknghua Temple is a longer trip from the city, but it's less crowded and more serene. In both temples, you can enjoy a vegetarian Buddhist meal. …

Tips For Disney World First-Timers

December 2, 2019
| vacation

• Slow down and enjoy the magic. Resist the urge to see everything at breakneck speed, and take time to enjoy the many amenities offered at your resort. You can not possibly see everything, so think of this as your first trip to Disney not your last. There will be time to pick up what you missed on the next go-round.

• Think ahead. Decide your priorities before your vacation starts and plan out each day beforehand.

• Get to the parks early! It's amazing, especially in busy season, how many of the popular rides you can knock off before half the "World" gets out of bed.

• Plan for a rest in the middle of the day particularly if you have children in tow or the parks are open late. Stay at one of the Magic Kingdom or Epcot resorts, allowing an easy return to your resort in the middle of the day for a nap or a plunge in the pool.

• Call or go online exactly 180 days prior at 7:00 am Orlando time (Eastern time) for dining reservations if a meal at Cinderella's Royal Table or Be Our Guest in the Magic Kingdom is tops on your list. You might get away with sleeping in and booking a bit later but only when traveling during extremely slow seasons.

• Come prepared for an afternoon shower during the rainy summer months even if the sky looks perfectly clear in the morning. Rent a locker to store your rain gear, circling back if skies start to look threatening. If you're caught unprepared just about every store in the parks sells inexpensive rain ponchos.

• Arrive at the water parks at opening time if a lounge chair is a priority, or, better yet, pre-reserve one of the private cabanas or premium beach chair space. And remember that in the busy summer months, water parks are sometimes filled to capacity by mid-morning with new guests kept from entering until late afternoon.

• Use Disney's FastPass + ® option which allows up to three FastPass + attractions per day to be pre-reserved 60 days prior to arrival.

• Make Advance Dining Reservations, especially in the busier times of year (see the Dining In Style at Walt Disney World Resort chapter for a more detailed explanation), to save hours of waiting and frustration.

• Allow plenty of time to reach the theme parks each morning. It's easy to miss your breakfast reservations when enough time has not been allocated.

• Be selectively spontaneous. If something catches your eye, even if it's not on your daily list of things to do, be ready to stop and explore or you may miss something wonderful.

• Be attuned to the limitations of your children. If they're tired take a break; if their feet hurt get them a stroller (forget that they outgrow one years ago); if a ride seems scary to them do not force the issue. It will make your day and the day …

Your Home Or Vacation Cottage – Do not Give Fires a Place to Start in Your Kitchen Or Utility Room

December 1, 2019
| vacation

Do not give fires a place to start in your home or cottage. Make it a point to do a thorough inspection and review of your home much as if the yearly fire inspectors were at your abode.

Where to start? First things first start in your kitchen, kitchen areas as well as your utility room cleaning spaces. . If you do need to extend or alter existing wiring calls a trained and certified electrician not just someone you are told how to do it. If you do any matches or cleaning solvents ensure that they are packed away carefully and securely. In terms of matches – keep matches securely away from little hands who may just want to have fun with those matches or sometimes a lighter. Your home could go up in smoke over some little fun /

Next check your laundry utility room areas. Again check for solvents and other cleaning fluids. Guard against spontaneous ignition fires by keeping those oily rags or clothes that may be seated with furniture polish, paints or wax in closed metal containers and preferably not on top of that stored next in hot closed closets or cupboards. In addition keep waxers and floor mops in cool open spots. The porch areas of your cottage or house might be good areas to store these cleaning utensils.

If you do chores in these two area – your kitchen or utility room make it a point as well as a habit not to leave your electric iron with, that is with the current on and hot – even if its just for a rest and resting period and periods or for a brief spell. Use an automatic cut off type clothes pressing iron. In addition let the iron cool thoroughly on the protected cover of your ironing board. Then store the iron away in a safe and secure place.

Kitchens are an area that should have made fire proof. First and foremost ensure that you have a charged and even inspected fire extinguisher. Fire extinguishers run down over time – they must be inspected and recharged if needed or necessary. It never hurts to play it safe.

Before you leave your home it is always a good idea to check your stove. Do not let grease accumulate on the stove. In addition make it a solid practice to keep grease containers away from your stove or stoves. If grease fires unfortunately do occur and flare up, the correct and approved procedure to extinguish such a fire is to smother the grease fire in pans by using tight lids for covers. In addition kitchen salt itself can be thrown onto grease fires to extinguish them.

Along the lines of prevention and preventive maintenance see to it that window curtains and hanging towels can not blow into gas flames or over a hot stove. In addition check your automatic gas heater regularly and on an ingoing manner. If a house is to be left unoccupied and …

Many people that visit Las Vegas prefer to stay downtown on what is known as Fremont Street. That is the Las Vegas that was established in the 50s by guys like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Freemont street was completely refurbished and now features a canopy that spans the length of the entire street. It actually encloses the street and the canopy itself is a huge display of lights and images that is pretty amazing to see.

Many of the hotel packages for Las Vegas combine entertainment with the rooms. There are various forms of this entertainment that could be anything from Blue Man Group to watching the Cirque du Soleil. There are many shows that are smaller and with entertainers not quite as well known up and down the strip and in the downtown area of Las Vegas.

Many hotels that have been built on the strip in Las Vegas over the last 20 years will take your breath away. Hotel Marketing Made Easy

November 29, 2019
| hotel, travel

Gone are the days of promoting your hotel through magazines, directories and flyers. Today, the first place a tourist goes prior to making hotel bookings is the internet. Having grown more than 73% over the last 5 years, internet booking is riding the high wave these days. Recent reports suggest that travel forms the largest e-commerce category today, closely followed by airline ticket sales, the online travel industry having reaped in $700 billion in 2012. The number is growing exponentially with services of traditional travel agencies swiftly being abandoned and aborted. Clearly, hotel marketing today is going the internet way.

Identifying the need to adopt innovative approaches in their marketing strategies that are designed to attract the attention of potential customers, hotels today, are resorting to hotel website promotion through internet marketing. It is imperative for a hotel website to be competent enough to convert the number of visitors into bookings. A website’s design, layout, structure, content etc have a major impact on the conversion rate. Rich SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) also forms a part of this and enables a hotel to stand out on the very first page of reliable booking engines. A hotel website today, allows customers to take a virtual tour of the hotel, read all available information, study guest reviews and ratings etc. Based on these factors, the consumer then chooses whether or not to make a booking.

It is, however, imperative that hotel marketing tools be innovative, less complicated and easily accessible. Visual storytelling is the future of digital. An pleasant and attractive website showcasing captivating images of the hotel and its surroundings certainly catches the guest’s attention and also offers a competitive advantage to the hotel. Dissemination of information is another tool for hotel marketing. Also, the hotel’s website should be able to weave a story that enlightens guests about the various amenities and services on offer. Special emphasis should be laid on the firm’s competitive edge over others with proper FAQ’s to reap in more customer satisfaction.

Recent reports suggest that if hotels do not market themselves on social networks, they are most likely to experience a 2% drop in traffic each month and those that do increase views by 12% per month. If we leave the stats aside, the reason a hotel’s internet marketing strategy would include effective social media is because of the simple reason that this is where all the guests are! Approx 1 in every 13 people on earth use Facebook today and half of them log in each day! A social hub, Facebook is where people connect, interact, and share views, opinions and reviews. This also includes a host of travel information. Ensuring that your hotel is active on the social scene is a vital tool for claiming new guests and retaining the old.…

November 28, 2019

| vacation

Halkidiki lies in the northern part of Greece and it is one of the best and most well known vacation resorts in the world. The whole area is highly beautiful and rather unusual in appearance, since it consist of three peninsulas protruding out in the Aegean Sea, the three legs of Halkidiki, each one different from the other in nature environment and holiday life. The cosmic part of Halkidiki actually consists of two of the three legs, since the eastern peninsula, Mount Athos, is a land site dedicated to god, with lots of monasteries and a really mystical atmosphere. The other two peninsulas though, called Kassandra (the western leg) and Sithonia (the middle leg), provide Halkidiki with a great mixture of sandy beaches, small bays, pine forests, luxurious hotels, beach bars and intense night life around the Gulf of Toronaios. Each side of Kassandra and Sithonia has its own personality.

Kassandra is the busiest part of the Halkidiki prefecture. The western part of Kassandra probably has the best sandy beaches, with crystal blue waters and all-day beach bars so that anyone can loosen up and spend its own time by the beach, enjoying water sports or resting and soaking up in the sun. The eastern part of Kassandra on the other hand is the most highly-developed part of the prefecture. Iced coffee, cocktail drinks, lots of alcohol, dancing music in bars and night clubs, and young crowds make up the absolute 24/7 party destination.

The western part of Sithonia is an enticing natural combination of sandy beaches and rocky coves, surrounded by shrubs and pine trees. Along the main road of the peninsula, there are many hotels, campsites, as well as studios and apartments complexes that provide the tourists with a wide range of options regarding money and holiday styles. As we move to the eastern part of Sithonia, the landscape changes spectacularly. The rugged volcanic terrain creates breathtaking natural spots with bushy flora, rocks, small islands and little islets floating on turquoise and green waters. This is by far the wildest and less owned part of Halkidiki.

Any style, any wallet, any nature, you name it! It's all there in the multi-style resort of Halkidiki. Gerakini is placed in the hub spot of Halkidiki, located ideally in between Kassandra and Sithonia, and proffers locales and seasonal tourists the chance to take full advantage of all the places and activities Halkidiki has to offer. The 20 Year History of the Toyota Motorhome

November 26, 2019
| travel

For almost 20 years various manufacturers made the Toyota motor home in several models. During its heyday, this little camper was produced in over 60 different models and styles of motor homes.

Beginning with the rather small Toyota Chinook camper and carrying on through the largest of the Toyota based Winnebago and Itasca models, the Toyota based motor home help to establish many manufacturers in the RV industry.

Because of the large number of manufacturers it is not uncommon to see similar campers and very different names. The small overall size had to limit the variety of floor plans available. This caused a lot of the manufacturers to build virtual duplicates that varied only in some of the fit and finish type of details.

It wasn’t long until the manufacturers began to expand the size of the camper bodies. Using conventional manufacturing techniques found in the travel trailer industry, the stick and staple type of construction with aluminum siding became the standard.

In the decade of the 1980s production of the Toyota motor home peaked. Many different companies were producing many different models. Some of the larger companies that were in this business were national RV, the producers of the very popular Dolphin series. They also produced the Seabreeze models. At the same time Winnebago was producing the Brave, the Warrior, and the deluxe Itasca Spirit models.

Damen Corporation of Elkhart Indiana produce the Escaper motor home, while Coachman produced the popular Coachman and Savanna models. Leisure Odyssey was building the Americana, Santa Cruz, and the Laguna campers.

The Mini-Mirage was built by Mirage industries, while the still very popular SunRader was constructed with a fiberglass body by Gardener Pacific.

By the late 1980s the length of the camper body had expanded to 22 feet. This caused a severe overload problem on the original half ton pickup axle. A national safety recall was issued by the United States government to correct the problem. Most of the models were given a new one ton axle. However there are still a few units available today that have the unsafe axle. Caution is advised if you are looking at in 1980s version of this very popular camper.

In 1989 V6 appeared on the market in the Toyota chassis. This increased horse power became very popular with the camper owners and production continued until 1994 when Toyota stopped supplying the pickup chassis to the camper manufacturers for safety reasons. Winnebago produced some of the last V6 versions in 1994.

During its production lifetime, the Toyota motor home enjoyed a great popular success and was widely distributed across the country. Today the greatest number of units on the road seem to be concentrated on the east and west coast areas but these motor homes will turn up just about anywhere in the country.…
