Seven Family Vacation Destinations To Visit With Your Grandkids

Family vacation destinations can generate quite a bit of buzz & anticipation with kids because they know they’re embarking on a journey to the “funnest” places in the world. However, for parents, these places can really be a drag because they don’t feel as though they belong. Throw in the wrench of putting an extra generation in between, and now you have a sense of the kind of gap that can exist between grandparents & their grandkids.

It shouldn’t be this way. Luckily, there has been a renaissance of sorts when it comes to grandparents traveling with their grandkids. Family vacation destinations are now rocking the system in terms of which generations interact with each other, and this means closer relationships & bonds being developed.

Here are seven kid-friendly (that means grandkids, too) family vacation destinations to visit:

Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area – Open 7 days a week and located in the Carson National Forest, visitors are greeted with some of the most amazing ski trails in the country, as well as having access to miles of trails for hikers. What’s more, Enchanted Forest CC Ski Area is within driving distance from the bigger, and more congested, cities, so this is a nice alternative to those looking to avoid the crowds.

Taos Ski Valley – A brainchild brought to prominence in the mid-20th century by Ernie & Rhoda Blake, Taos Ski Valley began small but soon developed into a world-class ski resort, earning accolades from prominent figures in the winter sports world, as well as the jet-set crowd who have made the area a haven for travel.

Red River Community House – The Red River Community House offers free family-friendly activities all year. Enjoy activities like Movies on the Lawn, “Chill” Teenager and Young Adult Nights, daily hikes, history tours, and more.

Red River Off-road Tours – Be the cool grand parents & take notice of guided tours either by jeep or by Snow Cat. Why not make a journey to remember into “a 4×4 journey to remember”?

Cimarron River – Remember that even though we’d like to believe all kid-friendly destinations have to be fuel-injected by adrenaline rushes, sometimes it’s nice to know you can have a quiet visit & take in some fishing & a picnic. You might even be lucky enough to encounter other wildlife as area experts indicate the presence of beavers, deer, and mountain lions.

Black Mountain “Playhouse” – “The Playhouse”, established in 1948, offers visitors roller-skating, billiards, video arcade games, indoor and outdoor putt-putt golf, five big-screen TVs to watch the game, ping-pong, darts, Foosball, and air-hockey! The Black Diamond Grill gives adults a chance to relax while the kids entertain themselves for hours.

Red River Ski and Summer Area – Whereas most destinations in the Rockies cater only to the snowy months of the year, this northern New Mexico year-round institution (established 1959) is family-friendly fun for those that enjoy both the sun & snow. Enjoy exciting activities including: skiing, snowboarding, summer & winter tubing, summer scenic chairlift rides, 18-hole mountain top disc golf, mountain biking, hiking, and fishing.

It’s important to remember that family vacation destinations are about just that – family. No matter where you find yourselves, concentrate on the quality of the time you spend together.
